Paul Merson would back plans to scrap replays in the FA Cup - but only if the third round was seeded to guarantee a financial windfall for the smallest sides. This week it was reported that the Football Association and Premier League clubs are discussing plans to turn the FA Cup into a midweek competition with no replays.Cambridge United are estimated to have earned £1million after taking Manchester United to a replay in the fourth round of last years competition and Sky Sports expert Merson says financial incentives should be put in place for lower league clubs. What I would do is seed the third round of the FA Cup, Merson said on The Fantasy Football Club Podcast. The lowest seeded team left in it plays at Old Trafford. Its not a fix, but youve got to let these teams make money. Its no good if Guiseley - off the top of my head - get all the way through to the third round of the FA Cup and draw Millwall away. The Fantasy Football Podcast Max and Merse give their FA Cup predictions, as well as Mark Noble and Trevor Brooking #One2Elevens If they go to Millwall, no disrespect but theres going to be 5,000 people there and they aint going to make anything.Theyve won so many games to get there - so seed it and then get rid of the replays. Were only scrapping replays for the top four teams. When I played football we used to start the League Cup with a two-leg match. Sometimes you have FA Cup replays that had to go on another game. Now all of a sudden they are scrapping them. They jurys out, but its only for the top four. If you seed the third round the lowest team will make money. The move came a day after Ogando (4-2, 3.08 ERA) allowed two runs over six innings in a victory at Oakland, in his ninth start of the season. Manager Ron Washington said there were no issues with Ogando before or after the game in Oakland, and said he wasnt aware of the problem until he arrived at the ballpark Thursday. Washington said the move was more precautionary because Ogando prefers to pitch through soreness. The manager said the flare-up probably was the result of an increased workload for Ogando, who went back to the bullpen last year after winning 14 games as a starter in 2011. "Rather than let this drag on, we just decided that we were going to nip it in the bud and get it right," Washington said. "If he was still in the bullpen, it probably wouldnt have been an issue." Ogando, who was scheduled to have an MRI, is on the disabled list for the second time in his career.ddddddddddddHe missed a month last season because of a strained right groin. Texas recalled right-hander Cory Burns from Triple-A Round Rock, where he has spent all season. Burns only major league action came last season with San Diego, when he was 0-1 with a 5.50 ERA in 17 relief appearances. Burns will be in the bullpen, and Josh Lindblom is expected to take Ogandos turn in the rotation Monday. Lindblom was acquired as a reliever when the Rangers sent Michael Young to Philadelphia in the off-season, but hes been starting at Triple-A Round Rock after a rough start in the Texas bullpen. Lindblom is 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 43 1-3 innings at Round Rock after giving up 14 hits and seven runs in 10 1-3 innings with the Rangers. "Hes using his stuff extremely well, velocity coming back," Washington said. "It seems like when we decided to start him, things began to work better for him." ' ' '
