SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium -- Mercedes, Red Bull, Force India and Toro Rosso will all conduct a test lap of the Halo safety device in FP1 ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix.Though Halo has been shelved for 2017, the FIA is keen for every driver on the grid to sample a lap with it as it pushes for introduction the following season. F1s Strategy Group rejected Halo on the grounds that not enough testing of the device had been carried out for implementation next year. That testing will begin in Belgium on Friday, with Nico Rosberg, Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz all completing installation laps with the device during the opening morning of practice. Though installation lap tests are conducted at slow speed, it will give drivers an idea about visibility on an actual race track. Of special interest will be visibility up Spas daunting Eau Rouge corner, which goes down and up a hill into a blind dip in the road.Speaking about the test, Rosberg said: Ill do one run, which will be a couple of laps. That is enough to undersstand if its good or not.ddddddddddddI massively support the direction of improving head safety but Im not a fan of anything specific. Ill see how that goes to get an impression myself because I havent tried it yet. It needs to go on as soon as possible if it is good, but I can only tell you on Friday.Mercedes is confirmed to test the Halo in Belgium and Italy, meaning Lewis Hamilton will test it at Monza. Hulkenbergs Force India teammate Sergio Perez will also test it at Monza, though it is currently unclear whether the pair will be joined by other drivers. The Halo, which split opinion among drivers and fans alike, remains the only cockpit protection solution on the table, with the FIA dropping Red Bulls Aeroscreen proposal earlier this year. In Hungary the drivers were shown an FIA presentation on Halo which was compelling enough to change Lewis Hamiltons previously staunch opposition to the device. ' ' '
