OTTAWA, Ontario -- Jaromir Jagr fueled the Florida Panthers on a strong offensive night. Still, the veteran forward was ready to credit this victory to his goaltender.Roberto Luongo made 39 saves to back a three-point effort by Jagr, helping the Panthers beat the Ottawa Senators 4-1 on Saturday night. The score says we won 4-1, Jagr said, but Lou saved three or four goals at least, so we have to thank him.Jagr had a goal and two assists, and Jussi Jokinen, Jonathan Marchessault and Derek MacKenzie also scored for the Panthers. When we got our chances, we buried them, and sometimes thats all it takes, Luongo said. All in all, I made a couple of big saves, but the boys were able to take advantage of the opportunities and give me a little bit of breathing room.Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored and Craig Anderson made 19 saves for the Senators, who have lost back-to-back games for just the second time this season. We did a lot of good things, and we have to build off it, Ottawa wing Chris Neil said, adding that if you play like that, youre going to win more games than youre going to lose.Pageau ended Luongos shutout bid when his shot from below the goal line found its way between the netminder and the crossbar at 4:45 of the third period.Through 40 minutes, the Senators had nothing to show for two very solid periods of hockey, other than 27 shots on goal.At one point in the first, they held a 12-3 advantage in shots but trailed 2-0 after Jagr had a hand in on both goals. He opened the scoring 25 seconds in when his backhand shot was redirected by the stick of Senators forward Derick Brassard.Jagr then left the puck at the Ottawa blue line for Aleksander Barkov. He found Jokinen in the slot, and Jokinen beat Anderson high glove side with a wrist shot.Luongo got some help in the second period when Aaron Ekblad slid to block Mark Stones shot after the original attempt by Brassard went off the end boards right to Stone at the side of the net.Luongo later stopped Pageau point blank with a sprawling save, then foiled Dzingel on a breakaway. We were pretty lucky, Jagr said. Its nice to get a win but we were lucky and Lou played excellent and was unbelievable in the net.Marchessault gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead at 14:55 of the second when a blocked shot went right to his stick at the side of the goal. He quickly swatted the puck past Anderson.MacKenzie scored for the Panthers at 9:16 when his shot barely got through Anderson and across the goal line.Game notes Bobby Ryan, Mike Hoffman and Andrew Hammond were scratches for the Senators while Dylan McIlrath, Greg McKegg and Kyle Rau were scratches for the Panthers. ... NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Riley LaChance gave Vanderbilt a second-half spark, which was just what Vanderbilt needed. The junior guard scored nine of the Commodores first 11 points in the seconds half as Vanderbilt pulled away for a 75-52 win over Norfolk State in the on-campus portion of Las Vegas Invitational on Friday night. His surge turned a nine-point halftime lead into a 16-point advantage and the Spartans (2-2) never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.Riley played his best five minutes of the season to start that second half, Vanderbilt coach Bryce Drew said. He gave us a lot of energy on both ends, which kind of started on the defensive end, I thought. He really got out in transition and hit some 3s that were key for us.Matthew Fisher-Davis led Vanderbilt (2-1) with 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and LaChance added 12, highlighted by three 3-pointers.I was definitely in a good rhythm and my teammates did a good job of pumping me up, and we do a good job of pumping each other up, LaChance said. I think when we made that run in the second half we had really good energy and really good togetherness.Jeff Roberson grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 11 points for the Commodores, who hit 10 of 28 from 3-point range.Norfolk State lost to a Southeastern Conference team for the second time in a week, including a 78-74 defeat at Mississippi State on Nov. 11.A lot of it was our defensive mistakes, to be honest with you, Spartans coach Robert Jones said. We left Fisher-Davis three times on rotations and he had wide-open 3s, so a lot of it was us, not them really. The overall energy wasnt how we play for whatever reason.Jonathan Wade remained hot for the Spartans with 20 points and seven rebounds. Wade scored a career-high 34 points in Tuesdays 91-55 rout of Elizabeth City State. We kind of bbeat ourselves tonight, Wade said.dddddddddddd If our energy level is not there, were not the team were capable of being. Vanderbilt passed the ball crisply with 16 assists, compared to two for Norfolk State.GOOD WEEKFisher-Davis has looked good in both of Vanderbilts wins this week. Hes played a complete game, Drew said. We all know how well he shoots the ball, but hes been putting the ball down on the floor a little bit and hes been passing it and on the defensive end I think hes done a much better job taking pride in defending his man.UNBALANCED SCORINGWade was the only Spartan in double figures.
