ays this week. I think the players you drafted to start Youth Brian Burns Jersey , you should play. That would include these four.Must StartsWR A.J. GreenRB Alex CollinsRB Joe MixonK Justin TuckerIn fact some think Mixon will have a tough night and you therefore should bench him for a better match up:I have a hard time doing that. It seems every time I bench a starter because of a poor match up they have a big day. The thing with this match up is outside of the top four listed above you have no idea who’s going to score the points this week.Start Em if you have toWR Michael CrabtreeQB Joe FlaccoBaltimore DSTCincinnati DSTTE Tyler EifertSleeper PicksQB Andy DaltonWR John RossI really like Ross as a player who could break out as a rookie. The Bengals will have to throw the ball a lot to keep up. The Ravens are one point favorites on the road with an over/under of 43 points. That seems a little low to me so I like the over on this the most. If I had to pick a team I’m going to pick an upset by the Bengals for no particular reason. Bengals 24 Ravens 21Panthers vs FalconsOn the Panthers (1-0) vs Falcons (0-1) front it looks like running back Davonte Freeman will not be 100%. Freeman dinged his knee in the Falcons opening week loss to the Eagles.Must StartsQB Cam NewtonRB Christian McCaffreyWR Devin FunchessWR Julio JonesK Matt BryantQB Matt RyanGiven how poorly Ryan played last week you might consider sitting him this week. Don’t. He always plays the Panthers tough in front of the home crowd. Plus Julio Jones seems to save his best for the Panthers as well. Start Em if you have to:WR Mohammad SanuK Graham GanoTE Austin HooperSleeper PicksRB Tevin ColemanTE Ian ThomasIf Freeman is a game day scratch then Coleman has No. 2 running back potential. I see Thomas as getting significant targets filling in for injured Greg Olsen. The Falcons are six point favorites with the over/under at 44.5. I also like the over here as these teams will air it out this week. The infinite combinations of outcomes that can play out next Thursday night spark creativity that can lead to absurd or genius draft takes vindicated only by the decisions of a few. The hot takes before and after the draft proving to be pointless once the season begins. No one knows anything just as much as everyone knows everything simultaneously. Three years later, we can call the men who made these decisions morons or messiahs who changed the course of league history. The fact is that teams can only do their due diligence on these players but their fates are predicated on personality, team fit, and pure luck. That being said, sometimes a team has a hunch about a prospect. Something that will make them throw caution (and draft picks) to the wind to make them a part of their organization. If Marty Hurney and the Carolina Panthers have that hunch, they should trade up in the draft to grab their guy.Why the Panthers could trade upIt’s not the most popular opinion to sacrifice draft capital to take a chance on a first round player Brian Burns Carolina Panthers Jersey , but the Carolina Panthers have a window of opportunity that is closing quickly. With a franchise quarterback in Cam Newton and a Hall of Fame middle linebacker in Luke Kuechly, the Panthers have the base to be competitive in this league. Newton and Kuechly both have faced injury adversity as of late in their careers which has forced the organization to deal with the prospect of a morbid reality when it comes to their sustainability. This uncertainty puts the Panthers in a strange position where they will seek depth and insurance at both positions, but desperately need to add young game-breakers around them. A stalwart blind-side tackle could extend Newton’s career by years. An explosive pass rush could take much of the onus off the shoulders of Luke Kuechly. Both moves would compliment the opposite phase of the game as well.If the draft board falls accordingly and the Panthers see an opportunity to grab their “guy”, why shouldn’t they? The volatility of first round tradingIn 2007, Marty Hurney and the Panthers traded the No. 14 pick for the Jets’ No. 25, No. 59 and No. 164 picks. The Jets selected cornerback Darelle Revis, while the Panthers took center Ryan Kalil, linebacker Jon Beason Womens Brian Burns Jersey , and linebacker Tim Shaw.Winner: TieIn 2008, Marty Hurney and Carolina traded their 2009 first round pick along with their 2008 second and third round picks to Philadelphia in exchange for the No. 19 pick. The Panthers selected another massive bust in offensive tackle Jeff Otah. The Eagles selected future Hall of Fame offensive tackle Jason Peters, defensive tackle Trevor Law, and safety Quintin Demps.Winner: Eagles (team trading down)In 2010, Marty Hurney and the Panthers traded the No. 17 pick to the 49ers for the No. 43 and No. 111 picks. San Francisco drafted future All Pro guard Mike Iupati, while the Panthers selected two busts in defensive end Everette Brown and running back Mike Goodson.Winner: 49ers (team trading up)In 2012, the (then) St. Louis Rams traded the No. 6 overall pick to the Dallas Cowboys for their No. 14 and No. 45 overall picks. The Cowboys drafted cornerback Morris Claiborne, who turned out to be significant bust. The Rams took defensive end Michael Brockers and running back Isaiah Pead.Winner Rams (team trading down)Hurney clearly doesn’t have strong record when trading up or back in the first round Womens Christian Miller Jersey , but that doesn’t mean the move can’t be successful. Third time’s the charm? The 49ers sure won their trade up scenario in 2010. As stated earlier, draft decisions are extremely hit or miss and fall back on luck more often than not. There is no exact formula to follow past due diligence and it reflects in the history of first round trade movement. Sometimes it’s worth taking a shot to change the course of your franchise. It depends on the team’s roster situation and coaching staff. The Panthers are in “win-now” mode with Hurney and Rivera on Tepper’s hot seat. It would make sense for them to risk a short-sighted move for immediate success. But who could be worth multiple Carolina draft picks this year?TargetsEDGE: Brian Burns, Ed OliverIf you’ve read anything I’ve written over the past month, you’ll know I’ve been banging the table for Brian Burns. He’s everything the Panthers want out of an edge player as they move into a 3-4 defense. They’ve shown tremendous interest and have met with him on several occasions. Burns stock has risen sharply over the past few weeks and may make him unattainable at the No. 16 overall pick. If the Panthers want him badly enough, they could give up their second or third round pick to frog leap and snag him.Ed Oliver is interesting. He was hailed as a top five pick for most of the college football season and, for some reason, seems to have slid down some draft boards. Oliver flashes shades of Aaron Donald with freakish athleticism to overcome his size differential at the nose tackle position. If he falls, the Panthers could take a risk to grab him and boost their interior defense.Offensive tackle: Jawaan TaylorThere is no question Carolina is in dire need of an upgrade in pass protection. The Panthers haven’t had stability at the left tackle position since the retirement of Jordan Gross Christian Miller Baltimore Ravens Jersey , and Cam Newton has been punished for it.Jawaan Taylor had a visit with Carolina early in April. If some of their favorite pass rushers are taken in the top ten, the Panthers may feel pressure to move up to grab a tackle. Taylor has been heralded as the best in the class and would be a plug and play starter on day one. Shoring up this position for a decade would be worth waiting to draft an edge in the later rounds.Potential trade partnersThere are really only a few positions the Panthers would realistically be able to trade into regarding what value the pick demands in return and which teams would be willing to move down the line. Below are two of the most likely scenarios if the Panthers were to move up:Jacksonville (No. 7 overall pick)The Jaguars aren’t looking at the same players as the Panthers are and may be able to slide back and still get the guy they want (see: DK Metcalf). The Lions are at the eighth spot and have been linked to edge rushers, specifically Burns. In this scenario, the Panthers would be giving up more to ensure they get who they want.Denver (No. 10 overall pick)The Broncos are reportedly looking at quarterbacks, and no one else around them will be. The Bengals, Packers, and Dolphins stand between the No. 10 pick and the Panthers. All three have similar needs to Carolina and could decimate the group that the Panthers want to choose from. The Broncos owe the Panthers for stealing their Super Bowl 50 rings and may not ask for much to slide back here. The bottom line is that the Panthers find themselves in an awkward spot where they may need to reach for a player they don’t love in the first round if the chips fall that way. It may be in their best interest to give up a third round pick (which haven’t been kind to them in the past anyways) and secure their favorite pass rusher or offensive tackle. Will they pull the trigger? We are only a few weeks away from finding out.
